Planned Parenthood of Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Luis Obispo Counties (PPSBVSLO) hosted its most successful Young Advocates event to date in May!
Dubbed, “Spring Fling with Planned Parenthood’s Young Advocates,” a record number of supporters, aged 22-40, filled the private outdoor patio of popular Santa Barbara dining hotspot, Sama Sama Kitchen for opportunity to meet new President & CEO (and newest Young Advocate), Jenna Tosh, Ph.D. The event featured cocktails, mingling, merriment and a SexPert Spelling Bee with prizes! This was the first Planned Parenthood event for more than half of the attendees.
The SexPert Spelling Bee proved to be much fun as attendees gathered into groups and came up with creative team names like: “Georgia O’Queef,” “Cunninglinguists,” “Clap for Plan B,” “The G-Spots,” “Gone-a-rhea-for-the-weekend,” and “Rhymes With Female Anatomy.”
Moderated by Steering Committee member, Zahra Nahar-Moore, CEO Jenna Tosh and PPSBVSLO Special Events Coordinator Meggan McCarthy served as judges and rotated reading the definition and use of the word in a sentence.
After eight rounds and a tie-breaker (name the date and location of the first family planning clinic in America), “Rhymes with Female Anatomy” narrowly edged out team “Cunninglinguists”!
Through the generosity of attendees and a board match, more than $1,200 was raised to support PPSBVSLO’s vital services.
Special thanks to Young Advocates Steering Committee members, Lindsay Soleimani, Molly Russ, Meggan McCarthy, Zahra Nahar-Moore, Nonie Hamilton, Christina Schowe and Gina Fischer. The committee is busy planning its next event, coming to land and sea in August, a sunset boat ride on Santa Barbara’s legendary Land Shark with SexPert bingo.
