Go to the gym. Eat healthy. Volunteer.
There are so many options out there when it comes to setting your resolutions for the New Year. And just like most of you, we here at PPAC are thinking about what we want to accomplish in 2015.
But when it comes down to what Planned Parenthood patients need the most, it becomes clear what our resolution should be for the New Year:
- Make sure Californians can access the care they need. (You can help: Act now!)
That means getting the nearly 4 million people who have signed up to get health coverage with Covered California health plans and Medi-Cal the services they need.
Making health care coverage works for new and existing Medi-Cal patients is important for fulfilling the promise of the Affordable Care Act and for creating a legacy of a healthy California.
California has long struggled with low Medi-Cal reimbursement rates - which were slashed even further during the recession. These low rates result in fewer doctors to see low-income patients, including new patients through the expansion of the Medi-Cal program.
This is unacceptable.
To ensure that Planned Parenthood and other safety net providers have the capacity to meet the growing need, we need the state to address the extremely low Medi-Cal reimbursement rates that prevent true patient access to health care.
It’s more than likely you – or someone you know – is a Medi-Cal patient. A sibling, a friend, a co-worker. And it’s up to us to make sure they can get the health services they need.
Here is how you can help: Email Governor Brown urging full funding for Medi-Cal.
Thank you for bringing us one step closer to achieving our New Year’s resolution!
