August 26 marks Women’s Equality Day, honoring the 19th Amendment, which made it illegal to deny voting rights based on sex. But it took another 45 years for women of color to gain protections for their right to vote. 96 years after the 19th Amendment became law, we’re still fighting for full access to the ballot box for all people because of voter suppression tactics.
