New health center opens in West Hollywood
Planned Parenthood Los Angeles (PPLA) officially opened the doors on a new health center in West Hollywood on Tuesday.
While originally planned as a celebration, the event took on a somber but very deliberate tone following the tragic events at a Planned Parenthood Health Center in Colorado Springs where a gunman shot and killed three people Nov. 27.
“Our doors are open today, in Colorado and across the country, and nothing will deter us from providing high-quality health care to our patients,” a PPLA official told a throng of waiting media. “These doors stay open."
In a partnership with the City of West Hollywood and nearby Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, the new PPLA health center will offer a wide range of reproductive care such as gynecological exams, cervical cancer screenings, breast examinations, STD testing and treatment, birth control and emergency contraception, abortion services as well as counseling and education.
They also will begin providing Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) to patients in 2016.
The event received wide coverage in Los Angeles.
