More than 100 Northern Nevadans gathered to support Planned Parenthood Mar Monte (PPMM) at their Derby Day event on May 7th - and the lightning-fast colt, Nyquist wasn’t the only winner. Over $12,000 was raised for PPMM services in the Nevada region!
Hosts Despina Hatton and John Swendseid opened their home to guests dressed in traditional derby attire, "Downton Abbey-style" hats and wacky outfits. One attendee even managed to look dapper in a button-up Pac-Man print.
Event sponsors David and Debby Kladney and Laurie Haley tempted guests with mint juleps, derby pie and horse "betting." Dave could be heard throughout the afternoon saying, "Do you want to bet $20 on a horse? No? Then, would you like to give $20 to Planned Parenthood?"
Those lucky enough to wager on a winning horse received a door prize of a potted mint plant and the now world famous mint julep recipe! The grand prize winner also took home a bag of swag, assembled by PPMM Development’s own Gen Dal Porto.
It was a great race day for PPMM in Nevada!
