Californians reject extremist views,
vote for candidates who protect women's health and choice

SACRAMENTO -- California voters once again cast their ballots to protect women's reproductive health care when they elected Gov. Jerry Brown and re-elected U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer, both long-time champions of women's health and supporting a woman's right to make her own personal decision regarding pregnancy.

"Californians carefully looked at the candidates and elected those with a proven record of supporting women’s rights and health.  They clearly rejected the extremism demonstrated by Carly Fiorina in the Senate race," said Kathy Kneer, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California (PPAC). "California women looked to Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California to provide them with accurate information this election and PPAC is proud to have provided women and independent voters with information on the key differences between the candidates on choice and women's health."

In addition to Brown and Boxer, other PPAC-endorsed candidates who won their elections last night include Gavin Newsom, Lieutenant Governor; Debra Bowen, Secretary of State; Bill Lockyer, Treasurer;  John Chiang, Controller; and Dave Jones, Insurance Commissioner. PPAC-endorsed candidate Kamala Harris is leading in her race for Attorney General as well.

Voters in Sacramento also rejected Anthony Pugno for his extremist views on choice and elected Dr. Richard Pan to the State Assembly. Pan was endorsed by Planned Parenthood Advocates Mar Monte.

"All of the PPAC-endorsed candidates have been long-time supporters of women's health care, family planning and the preventive services that Planned Parenthood health centers provide to Californians every day," Kneer said.

Planned Parenthood health centers serve close to a million Californians each year providing preventive health care services including family planning, breast and cervical cancer screenings, STD testing and treatment and in some areas primary health care services.
