The Supreme Court’s decision to reverse the Texas abortion restrictions is a major victory for women and reproductive rights. These Targeted Restrictions on Abortion Providers (also called TRAP laws) have no basis in sound medicine. As the court found, they placed significant burdens for women, through delays, increased travel distances, and overnight stays. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg noted in her opinion “it is beyond rational belief” that HB 2 would protect women’s health. It “would simply make it more difficult for them to obtain abortions.”
