On June 9, 2016 staff from Planned Parenthood Action Fund of the Pacific Southwest (PPAFPSW) marched in solidarity with San Diego janitors on the last day of contract negotiations to demand living wages, an end to sexual violence, and a stop to abuse on the job. Hundreds of people attended the rally in support. Several people were arrested although they were released later that day. Janitors in San Diego ratified their contract for the next four years on June 11th.
The local Justice for Janitors Movement is spearheaded by PPAFPSW’s community partner, SEIU-United Service Workers West. The union represents more than 40,000 janitors, security officers, airport service workers, and other property service workers across California. PPAFPSW continues to partner with SEIU-USWW to highlight the narratives of immigrant women, domestic workers, and reproductive justice issues prominent in our communities.
