7:00pm - 9:00pm
Planned Parenthood has been under attack before, but never like this. The Trump administration is committed to shutting down Planned Parenthood’s health centers and turning patients away from lifesaving reproductive health care. Their draconian proposals would be devastating to women and families across the country, including the 850,000 people in California who depend on Planned Parenthood’s services.

But we are optimistic. People just like you are keeping health centers open and making sure patients receive necessary care. Supporters, just like you, are calling their representatives, attending marches, and making donations. Planned Parenthood Action Fund of the Pacific Southwest is also right in the middle of this fight, connecting advocates with their legislators, organizing rallies and townhalls, and building a movement to defeat anti-Planned Parenthood politicians in 2018 and beyond.

SARA MOSER AWARD RECIPIENT
Congresswoman Susan Davis

Congresswoman Susan Davis has been a strong champion for Planned Parenthood, women and families since she was first elected to represent California’s 53rd Congressional District in 2000. Congresswoman Davis has consistently received a 100% voting record on Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s annual score card for her work to expand access to reproductive health and rights.

Congresswoman Davis has supported policies that expand access to
contraception, comprehensive sexual health education, and health care and has authored numerous bills that helped protect and advance rights for women and families in California. Congresswoman Davis, a former medical social worker, is a strong advocate for affordable and accessible high-quality health care for all, and championed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010, which advocated for direct access to an OB/GYN without requiring a referral from a primary care doctor, and preserving access to crucial maternal health care for low-income women by ensuring Medicaid birth center facility fee payments.

Congresswoman Davis is a member of the Pro-Choice caucus, and a senior member of the House Education and Workforce Committee. Prior to her election to the U.S. House of Representatives, Susan Davis served on the California State Assembly for six years, and on the San Diego Unified Board of Education for nine years. We are grateful to have such a strong advocate for access to health care and education
representing California’s 53rd Congressional District.

FEATURED SPEAKER

Senate President Pro Tempore Kevin De León

Senator Kevin de León, President pro Tempore of the California State Senate, is a proven champion and leader who has led a bold agenda to increase opportunity for all Californians focused on education, equity for women, immigrants, and low-wage workers. De León has advocated for and championed policies that uplift women, families, and expand access to  health care throughout his entire career in the California State Legislature.

Among his many policy achievements, Senator de León was crucial in securing a $15 minimum wage in California, has facilitated a number of immigration reform laws, and this yeat, he led a bicameral coalition to sponsor legislation that would provide health care for undocumented children. In 2014, his bill to prevent sexual assault on college campuses was the first law in the nation to require affirmative consent, earning him the recognition from Marie Claire as one of the "ten biggest supporters of women's rights in U.S. government"

Senator de León has also authored and championed legislation that required public high schools teaching health education classes to include sexual assault prevention in their curricula, and legislation that would make significant  investments in child care with a focus on empowering women in the workforce. Prior to his election to the California State Senate in 2010, Senator de Leon served four years in the California State Assembly. He is the first person in California history to serve as the Chair of the Appropriations committees in both the Assembly and the Senate, and is the first Latino elected leader of the Senate in over a century.
