Thank you, Governor Brown!
On September 22, Governor Jerry Brown visited Los Angeles to sign a historic women's health bill into law. Surrounded by Assembly Speaker John A. Perez, Assemblymember Holly Mitchell, and women leaders from throughout California, Governor Brown signed AB 2348-- legislation which will significantly increase access to birth control.
Authored by Assemblymember Mitchell, this bill authorizes registered nurses to dispense hormonal contraceptives under a standardized procedure. As of January 1, 2013, women will not have to wait to see a doctor or advanced practice clinician to get birth control. Instead, RNs will be able to provide hormonal birth control to patients after taking a routine health assessment.
You can watch the bill signing ceremony and hear more about it from our elected leaders here. THANK YOU to each activist who called, emailed, and rallied in support of this legislation-- you have helped change women's lives in California!
