Thank you, Governor Brown!
On September 22, Governor Jerry Brown visited Los Angeles to sign a historic women's health bill into law. Surrounded by Assembly Speaker John A. Perez, Assemblymember Holly Mitchell, and women leaders from throughout California, Governor Brown signed AB 2348-- legislation which will significantly increase access to birth control.
Authored by Assemblymember Mitchell, this bill authorizes registered nurses to dispense hormonal contraceptives under a standardized procedure. As of January 1, 2013, women will not have to wait to see a doctor or advanced practice clinician to get birth control. Instead, RNs will be able to provide hormonal birth control to patients after taking a routine health assessment.
